Pisgah Fishing Day at Lake Powhatan

We are looking for volunteers to help at Pisgah Fish Day on Friday, May 29, 2026, from 8:30 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. This is a very special opportunity for us to help adults and children with disabilities catch fish in Lake Powhatan along with other partners and staff from the U. S. Forest Service.

Don’t miss this opportunity to spend time with adults and children with disabilities. We have been involved with this event for 33 years and past volunteers all say that it is an amazing, heartwarming experience.

Arrival Time: Please arrive at 8:30 for a pre-event volunteer meeting at 8:45. The event runs from 9 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.

Parking: Check in at the entrance to the Lake Powhatan Recreational Area, 375 Wesley Branch Road, Asheville. Tell the folks at the gatehouse that you are a volunteer with Pisgah TU and the Special Fishing Day Event. You will be directed to the parking area.

What to Bring: The Western NC Muskie Club provides all the fishing equipment. Bring clippers/pliers/hemostats and a small towel. You can bring a landing net if you want. Please pack a hat, sunscreen, sunglasses, weather-appropriate clothing, and a joyful heart!

Food and drink: PCTU sponsors lunch for all participants. Drinks and snacks are also provided.

Trout Talk – May

We will meet at the BluAxis Realty office in Hendersonville to hear from Dave Bender, longtime guide and expert fly tier with Davidson River Outfitters. Dave has decades of experience catching trout in all conditions. His ability to help anglers of all skill levels is amazing as he keeps things simple. Bring a friend and a cup of coffee, meet new friends, and learn from a great teacher.

Pisgah Chapter Program – June

Date: June 11, 2026  |  Time: 6:30 pm - 8:00 pm

Please join us for our monthly gathering where we enjoy social time with great good and brews from Guidon Brewing in downtown Hendersonville followed by an interesting program. Social time starts at 6:30 with our program at 7:00. This month our special guest speaker will be Amanda Bushon, District Fisheries Biologist with the North Carolina Wildlife Resources Commission. Amanda is involved with fisheries research and management in District 9. She is working on brook trout restoration in the Pisgah National Forest, muskie management in the French Broad River, and fish population monitoring in lakes and rivers in western North Carolina. Come on out with your questions about our diverse fisheries in our area.

This will be our last program at Guidon Brewing for the summer. We will meet socially on July 9 at Oskar Blues Brewing in Brevard, and at a stream restoration project on the East Fork of the French Broad River in Rosman on August 13 (driving directions will be posted in July).

Upper French Broad Riverfest

The Transylvania French Broad Stewards, the Town of Rosman, Conserving Carolina, Headwaters Outfitters, Pisgah Chapter of Trout Unlimited (PCTU), and many other community organizations and businesses are joining up again to put on the 11th annual Upper French Broad Riverfest! Residents and visitors are invited to come spend a fun day celebrating the river! This is a free, family-friendly festival with live local music, hands-on educational activities, free tubing trips, food trucks, and a great music line up. Don’t forget your swimsuit and towel!

PCTU will be hosting a booth with aquatic insect identification, fly tying, and activities for kids. Join us greeting folks and sharing information about trout and coldwater conservation.
