Pisgah Chapter Program – April

Please join us for our monthly gathering where we enjoy social time with great good and brews from Guidon Brewing in downtown Hendersonville followed by an interesting program. Social time starts at 6:30 with our program at 7:00. Our speakers this month will be Headwaters Outfitters operations manager Jessica Whitmire and expert fishing guide Chris Franzen who will discuss techniques and areas to fish for smallmouth bass.

Tree Planting – Armstrong Creek

  • 800+ trees – planting 400+ trees, giving away 400 trees to the community.
  • Planting locations on several tributaries of Armstrong Creek including Roses Creek and Three Mile Creek.
  • TU is managing the event, partners include Wildacres Retreat and Turkey Cove Baptist Church.
  • Event day itself we could use as many volunteers as we can get as both the giveaway and planting will be running concurrently.

Hendo Earth Fest

This annual event brings the community together to celebrate and learn about all the natural resources that make our area special. The hours are 10:00 AM to 3:00 PM. on Saturday, April 18. A wide variety of organizations will host booths along Hendersonville’s Main Street. The Pisgah Chapter invites members and non-members to help with our booth that will provide information about the Chapter and coldwater conservation. We also have fly tying demonstrations, activities for kids, and a 100 gallon aquarium with brook trout. If you are interested in helping, please email news@pisgahtu.org.

Pisgah Project Day

Pisgah Project Day is organized by the Pisgah Conservancy and involves many partners including the Pisgah Chapter to accomplish projects in the Pisgah National Forest. We will be likely doing a road side clean up but there are a variety of things that volunteers of all abilities can do. Click on the More Info link below to learn more and register. After a morning of accomplishing satisfying projects, all organizers, sponsors, and volunteers gather at Oskar Blues Brewing for a free lunch!

Mills River Day

Mills River Day is a free-to-attend large-scale community event that highlights agriculture, natural resource management, water quality, and the talents and related businesses in and around the Mills River Community. The day features live music, vendors, food trucks, a kid zone with bounce houses, a tractor show, a horse show, a farm tour, hands-on activities, and more! The Pisgah Chapter hosts a booth with information on coldwater conservation, fly tying demonstrations, kids activities (casting game, bug identification, and river sampling). Beginners Casting Clinic

The Pisgah Chapter of Trout Unlimited (PCTU) is excited to offer a Beginners Casting Clinic for those current PCTU members who own and are familiar with their own fly fishing equipment and recognize that there is more to learn, or perhaps unlearn, about their casting skills.
LEAD INSTRUCTOR: Mike Mihalas, Fly Fishers International Certified Instructor
INSTRUCTORS: John Rich, Robin Hoofnagle, Matt Christian
WHAT TO BRING: Rod and Reel Loaded With Line And Leader, Sunglasses, Hat. Don’t bring waders, we will be casting from the bank of a small lake.
CASTING TECHNIQUES: Basic Cast, Roll Cast, False Cast, Shooting Line And More.
WHO: First 12 PCTU members who purchase tickets. Youth ages 12-16 years old are eligible to participate, but must be accompanied by an adult during the duration of the clinic.

Adopt-A-Highway Roadside Clean Up

Come on out and help us keep the Pisgah Chapter section of scenic highway 276 through the Pisgah National Forest free of litter. We meet at the Coontree Picnic Area off 276 about four miles from the forest entrance. Wear sturdy shoes and bring gloves and some water. If bad weather is forecast, we may cancel. Pisgah Chapter Program – May

Please join us for our monthly gathering where we enjoy social time with great good and brews from Guidon Brewing in downtown Hendersonville followed by an interesting program. Social time starts at 6:30 with our program at 7:00. This month our special guest speakers will be law enforcement officers from the North Carolina Wildlife Resources Commission. They will talk about what they do to protect our fish and wildlife while keeping the public safe while we are out enjoying our natural resources.

Trout Talk – May

We will meet at the BluAxis Realty office in Hendersonville to hear from Dave Bender, longtime guide and expert fly tier with Davidson River Outfitters. Dave has decades of experience catching trout in all conditions. His ability to help anglers of all skill levels is amazing as he keeps things simple. Bring a friend and a cup of coffee, meet new friends, and learn from a great teacher.
